A manual, bolt-adjusted aluminum jack plate for an outboard-powered boat. It moves the engine back off the transom and lets you raise or lower it without pulling the motor, which is the usual fix for a boat with a poor holeshot or an outboard that is not sitting perpendicular at top speed. It is not the 6 in model (JPL4500, 16.93 x 16.93 x 6.69 in) and it is not the 8 in model (17.72 x 16.93 x 7.48 in, 29.8 lb). We confirmed the model from the carton against the maker's published figures: the item dimensions (17.13 x 16.93 x 4.72 in), the weight (23.75 lb) and the hole pattern (12 7/8 in / 9 7/8 in / 8 in) all match the 4 in model exactly, and none of them match the 6 in or 8 in model.

Notes On The Maker's Own Spec Sheet

Two published figures are worth flagging rather than repeating, because we could not stand behind them:

• Color. The maker's spec table lists the color as "Bronze". The plate in front of us is bare brushed aluminum - the bronze and brass are in the adjuster collar and the bushings, not in the finish. • Load capacity. The maker's spec table shows "Load Capacity: 24 pounds", which is simply the plate's own shipping weight repeated in the wrong field. We are not quoting a load rating.
• Horsepower. The maker publishes no horsepower rating for this model. Competing listings of similar-looking plates advertise figures such as 40-225 HP; those are other sellers' claims about other parts, not the maker's specification for this one, so we are not repeating them.
